Description

Hampton Court Palace, the home of England's most notorious king Henry VIII, has tales of ghosts, executions and Henry's 6 wives!  Perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of central London, Hampton Court has something to please all the family.  There are two palaces to look round, the most famous being that built for King Henry VIII; but a second palace was built for William III and his wife Mary towards the end of the 1600s.  In addition to the two magnificent palaces, there are stunning gardens to look round and a chance to see the complicated game of real tennis in action!   Oh and of course, for the young and young at heart, there's the world famous Maze!
Tours last between 2-3 hours, morning tours start at 10.30, afternoon tours at 14.30.  The meeting place is outside the West Front Gatehouse.  Tour price is for the whole tour and is in addition to the palace entry fee - go to www.hrp.org.uk for pricing details.

Hampton Court Palace is easily accessible by car with one car park on site and another just down the road at Hampton Court Green.  If coming by train from London Waterloo, trains depart every 30 minutes and the journey time is also about 30 minutes.  Leave the station at Hampton Court, cross over the bridge and the palace is right there - it couldn't be easier!
It will be cheaper for you to buy your entry tickets to the palace online in advance of visiting so go to www.hrp.org.uk for more information.  The entry tickets are in addition to the price of your tour. Collect your entry tickets from the ticket office on the left hand side as you enter the palace gates and then make your way to the meeting point, the West Front Gatehouse, where your guide Sandy will be waiting for you.
The morning tour starts at 10.30 a.m. and the afternoon tour at 14.30 p.m.  Food and drink are not included in the tour price.
HIGHLIGHTS
the original Tudor kitchen
Henry's grand Great Hall
the spooky Haunted Gallery
William's weapons collection
the beautiful gardens
The tour will begin by exploring Henry's Tudor palace taking in his vast Tudor kitchens, his magnificent Great Hall and the eerie Haunted Gallery.  Moving on to William's state apartments, you can admire the grandeur of his ceremonial staircase and the splendour of his apartments including an impressive display of weaponry and a world-class art collection.
Whilst exploring the two contrasting palaces, Sandy will bring history to life with her stories of ghosts and executions, assassinations, bizarre court etiquette, optical illusions and downright Royal oddness!
Children are captivated and horrified in equal measure by the tales of Henry VIII and his tyrannical rule and how things aren't quite as they seem in William's apartments!
Leaving the palaces behind, the tour moves on to the real tennis court, one of only four in London.  The court is in use most of the time and it is fascinating to see this complicated game in action.  Henry VIII played the game here at Hampton Court and Charles I was said to be a very keen player.  Finally, the tour moves to the south side of the gardens where Henry built his private garden and fishponds.  There is also the chance to see the Grape Vine, the largest and oldest productive grape vine in the world according to the Guinness Book of Records!
Hampton Court is a truly great day out for all the family and you will find Sandy a fun, entertaining and informative guide.  She has your best interests at heart and if you want to stop for a coffee or comfort break, that is fine with her.  She will make your tour the best it can be and will ensure that you leave Hampton Court with lots of happy memories.  Check out Sandy's website hobnobtours.london and click on the link to Trip Advisor to see what others have thought of Sandy's tours - she has a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor for 2017.
