Description

Experience the history of England from prehistoric times to the present on Christmas Day. Visit Royal Windsor for a guided walking tour of the old market town. Visit Salisbury and Bath for a panoramic driving tour and a walking tour of the old town. Enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch including Roast Turkey and Christmas dessert.

After morning pickup in central London, head off first to Windsor Castle for a guided walking tour of this old market town.

Take in the charming cobbled streets and medieval buildings, including the house where William Shakespeare lived when he wrote The Merry Wives of Windsor, and see the warrant for King Charles I’s execution signed by Oliver Cromwell in 1649.

View Sir Christopher Wren’s intriguing Guildhall, and then continue to the famous Long Walk, a straight pathway that affords impressive views of Windsor Castle. Pause here as your guide explains the dramatic history of this picture-perfect castle, the oldest inhabited castle in the world.

Next, journey south-west toward Salisbury, passing through Runnymede where King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215, before heading onto picturesque Salisbury Plain.

Here, enjoy plenty for time for a photo-stop at Stonehenge, the most famous prehistoric monument in the world. Step back in time about 5,000 years as your guide charts the remarkable sequence of events that surrounded the construction of these ancient monoliths.

Christmas lunch is an absolute treat. We move on to a charming pub to enjoy roast turkey with all the trimmings, followed by a delicious dessert before setting off to explore Salisbury.

Described as the ‘city in the countryside’, this delightful market town still retains much of its historical heritage. Enjoy a guided walk past half-timbered buildings and historic houses, many of them still bearing original features dating to the 13th and 14th centuries.

Discover something of interest around every street corner, and then take in the stunning Cathedral, home to the finest copy of the Magna Carta and Britain’s tallest church spire. Look, too, for the UK’s oldest mechanical clock, dating back to 1386.

Finally, venture to the spa town of Bath for a walking tour and panoramic drive around this beautiful Roman and Georgian town. Visit the Royal Crescent, Circus, and Pulteney Bridge, the latter with lovely views of the River Avon cascading over a weir.

Afterward, return to London where your tour ends with a drop-off at or near Victoria railway station.

Please note: Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and the Roman Baths in Bath are closed on Christmas Day, but the tour still provides a comprehensive overview of each attraction and includes a delicious Christmas lunch in a historical English pub. The order of sightseeing on the tour itinerary may be subject to change on the day.
